There's been lots of discussion around town about canceling events - canceling the Grammys, canceling the Oscars, canceling the Blockbuster Awards (yes, Blockbuster had an Award Show)... But right now, Los Angeles doesn't need a layoff... it needs a lift up, economically and spiritually.
Right now is when our people need joy, laughter and togetherness the most. On top of that, our people need to keep working, particularly our artist community, who depend on production to make ends meet. So when we say "the show must go on," we truly mean "the show must go on." And this show is going the hell on.
44 will be performing at the Kirk Douglas Theater (9820 Washington Blvd. Culver City) Sunday, February 23rd - Sunday, March 23rd!
So buy your tickets today to get the best seats!
All seats are $44 for Preview Performances Sunday, February 23rd - Wednesday, February 26th
Tickets start at $44 for performances Friday, February 28th - Sunday, March 23rd
And while we're big believers in the value of art in and of itself, there are times when you're called to do more, and we feel like this is one of those times. 44 is an L.A. show - our cast lives here, our band lives here, most of our crew lives here - and many of us, myself included, were born and raised here. This is our community. These are our people. So we're going to be giving back in the way that feels authentic to us.
We're calling it 20 for 20 - 20 Shows. 20 Families.
Proceeds from 20 of our shows will go directly to a family who has lost or been displaced from their home. We'll also be providing that family with free tickets to the show, as well as free dinner at a local restaurant before or after the show.
This is not a handout - it's a hand up. And simply by purchasing a ticket, or a hat, you'll be contributing to those family's recovery as well.
A night out for dinner and a show won't erase the pain of the last few weeks, but it may help bring some much-needed smiles for a few hours. This money won't replace a home, or the memories housed within it, but it'll help with the rent, or the groceries, or a new backpack for school.
We can't do everything for everyone. But we can do something for someone.
We hope you'll join us.
